Being a fan of the Ave, it’s still good to hear you decided on a domestic truck. With the midgate up, the bed is probably similar to the F150 length-wise. Even with it down, the front seats are pretty stout (mine even have the seat belts built in), would take a lot to do ‘em in. Besides, if you keep your mind on the road, it’s unlikely you’ll be rear-ended.

The HVAC system is plenty capable of keeping the cabin warm/cool while the midgate is down. They recommend running the fan hot/cold to keep exhaust fumes out of the cabin. I live in Mid-MI, no complaints.

One big downside to this and cadillac. They are not safe. I have a friend who had an 08 Avalanche. He had three 8′ long 2X4s in the back, with the back seats down. Some jerk rear ended him at 20 mph. The 2×4s went right into the nav unit and dash. If he had something shorter (like a kayak) behind his seat, it would have nailed him. B4 this happened, I was thinking of the avalanche. But now I picked up a Ford F150 with crew cab. No way am I going tio have a truck without the bed separate

@dbinder79 If you’re ever driving with the whole midgate (I think it’s called) down including the window, does it get cold?

Not really a fan of CR, but this is a pretty fair review. I have an ‘05 Avalanche, the mid gate really comes in handy when hauling drywall or other long items. Leaving the glass in place keeps things dry and warm, even with the cab open to the covered bed.
